FILIPPA K LAUNCHES NEW SOFT SPORT COLLECTION
If your fashion brand hasn’t yet discovered the new trend of fashion meet function, wake up, because many fashion brands launch soft sports collections these days, and many new sports brands launch fashion-oriented sports collections.
Founders Filippa Knutsson and Patrik Kihlborg launched the Filippa K label in 1993, wanting to design trendy, independent collections with substance and truth. “Today this train of thought still serves as a foundation for the timeless designs, including the new Filippa K soft sport line. The selection in the Filippa K soft sport collection fully supports this train of thought - the compact collection of minimalistic designs in technical qualities cater to the needs of the modern sports woman,” tells Sourcing Manager Christina Muljadi from Filippa K.
Christina continues. "the Filippa K soft sports collection is a perfect match between comfort, function and style and most of the collection is crafted from high-tech microfiber for a quick drying effect, which addresses the necessity to move comfortably. The collection consists of racerback tank, a strap top, yoga leggings, shorts, light jackets and other fashion to function related garments with a fashionable look".
Tell us why you have selected LTP as new garment manufacturer for soft sport?
"It was excellent to discover that LTP in Lithuania exists in a nearby country with the technical capabilities which are required for the soft sport. LTP is Blue sign certified which is an advantage, and LTP has all technical capabilities available such as laser cutting, ultrasonic, taping, bonding etc., which are important for the future to differentiate our collection. For 2018, we have also started to work with LTP Vietnam, and we hope to see the same capabilities implemented there as well."
How is the collaboration with LTP working?
"The collaboration is improving step by step. It always takes at least two seasons before the process gets implemented. Filippa K is a fashion company and has the fashion process in the backbone. This is a little challenging for LTP to adopt, and flexibility is required. Fashion has a shorter lead time than sports.
How does Filippa K differentiate from other soft sports brands?
"Soft Sport is both training, travel & leisure wear with the typical design values and aesthetic of Filippa K, i.e. subtle, good fit and long-lasting qualities. The idea is to look good when going to exercise, during, and after.
Shifting your fashion brand to function
"We see a turn in the fashion market that many brands want to expand their fashion collection with more technical styles, but often fashion companies do not have the technical mindset because they are mostly working with fashion garment manufacturers, "tells CCO Alex Ingildsen from LTP Group .
“You need to rethink your supply chain. Function is different from fashion. To honor the quality standards signaled by your brand when you shift your collection into new dimensions and product groups, you need a fresh look at your supplier's ecosystem” says Alex and continues:
“Firstly, it's about fabric sourcing. The market may seem unwieldy, but having a knowledgeable partner will give you a head start. Secondly, to work with functional fabrics, you need an elaborate skillset in the product development and manufacturing process. Again, having a partner who's at home with the technical requirements of functional garment manufacturing will help you put you in the lead.”
